  • Coming Up Next - 55k Green Cards to Graduates/180K H1Bs ?

Congress will begin its summer break this week without any plan for high-skill immigration. But here's what to watch for when lawmakers return in September.

The Senate immigration bill allows up to 180,000 H-1B visas, and provides for unlimited green cards for U.S. STEM grads. Issa's bill provides up to 55,000 STEM green cards.

There is broad support in both chambers for increasing H-1B visas for the tech industry as well as making STEM green cards available to U.S. university graduates.

This week, tech lobbying groups joined with many other industries, including farming, manufacturing, hospitality and other industries, to urge Congress to take action on immigration.

www.DesiOPT.com is sharing the latest developments, This bill is not yet law hence all current rules remain in effect.

The Bill Will Pass for Sure, But might not be the same Bill that was passed in the Senate.
The House wants to go with a Piece by Piece Approach to the Bill.
But Surely some of the aspects will be made into Law, if not everything.

This all goody goody.. now lets discuss the adverse effects of immigration bill...
                        1) This H1B cap increase will be only for employers who are NOT H1B dependent.. for the companies having 75% or more employees as H1B, no further H1 application will be accepted for them.. you know what does this means?? HCL,TCS,Infosys will go in hibernation and this will results in tremendous slowdown in Indian IT market... so a bad omen for you if you are planning to go back to India after a while..
                        2) - The federal government is targeting the illegal immigrants from Mexico and other countries (including India) who are residing here for years.. with increase in H1B cap\green cards US will invite all the illegal immigrants to come on legal status either as H1 or GC.. this will result in bringing their income on paper and hence increase in Tax which they will get which will further result in betterment of US economy...
The law makers are not fool.. they are bringing this bill for betterment of their country.. not for us..

Ofcourse they are Doing this for the Betterment of their Economy.
That wasnt a Secret at all..
What we have to look for is What we are gaining.
If u ask Me, We will gain a lot in this process.

Agreed.. as an individuals and being graduate students of US universities, yes we will gain.. but looking at our country's point of view, this initiative will be shutting doors for Indian IT industry.. If you plan to settle here its good for you.. But what after 5-6 years if you plan to go back..?? trust me the things back at India will not as good as they are right now.. !
