Police Clearance Certificate

Hi all,
I need Police Clearance Certificates for India (preferably through the Indian consulate in Chicago) and for USA. Has anyone here applied and know the exact procedures?
I did some basic search on Google. I am here looking to re-confirm the check list and any tips for quick processing.
Read that I need to send my original passport through post to the consulate and wait until I get my PCC, so I am a little worried about that though. And the PCC for USA might take about 2-3 months?

Can you explain what is a police clearance certificate?
Actually you can call ckgs center and enquire....they will be able to help you out..

PCC for USA takes about 2-3 months and you have to get fingerprinted at a licensed location. If you can visit the Indian consulate with your original docs, you don't need to send your passport via mail.

I did this for myself and got passport and PCC through mail in less than a week. Go ahead.
