Advantages and Immigration benefits of STEM courses over Non STEM courses

Hi,You guys are doing a great job by publishing information which is really needed to all of us.
I have a question and appreciate if somebody can answer it. I have a friend coming to the states for masters in management side. Management courses are not under STEM program. my question is what are the advantages of STEM courses over the non STEM courses? what Immigration benefits do STEM students get.

Main advantage of STEM program is after completion of the program student gets an OPT for 29 months and in non-STEM program, student gets an OPT of 12 months.

Well Both STEM and non-STEM students get's OPT for 12 months initially, but after applying for extension, STEM students get 17 month's extension and non-STEM gets 5 months. Which make 29 months for STEM and 17 months for non-STEM.

R u sure about 5 months extension for non stem , I never heard

I dont think so there is a five months extension for non-stem..

so is it like we have to file a petition so that our extension would be considered until for 5 months more? Please guys shed some light over this am too in this dilemma...
