Suppose you have 48 credit to complete degree and you have successfully taken 44 credits so for, then obviously you can take remaining 4 credits and you can remain in full time student status.

you can do it only if they are the only credits remaining to complete your masters

You can fill up Reduced course load form and remain in full time status. Also, it makes sense to check with your international student counselor about the same.

You can also split your credits in last two semesters. I did it. I'm suppose to gain 45 credits, I got 15 credits waived because I already did them in my bachelors. Left with 30 now and I took 9+9+6+6. But you have to get permission from your dean and international advisor to do so.

You need to check the minimum credit required in-order to maintain your F-1 status. If you are serving as a graduate assistant then you are eligible for reduced course load. A Reduced course work form will also suffice your requirement.
