H1 to F1 - I have Used 6 yrs H1 Can I apply for green card and get back on H1?

Hi All,
I have used my 6 years of H1 B VISA and later switched to F1 VISA and started working on OPT.
But I continued on F1 VISA without leaving the country after the H1 VISA got expired.
Am I still eligible to apply for Green card, have my I-140 processed and later apply for fresh H1 after the I-140 is approved?

Please suggest. If anyone had gone through the similar situation and or any of your friend had been in similar situation.
