  • Tax filling for On-Campus job.

    Hello DesiOPT...

I am currently working on-campus as an assistantship in my school and I will be graduating this December, but the graduation ceremony is in the month of May. I have few questions hoping that you guys will help me out....
1.Do I need to collect any tax file documents from my school?
2.Do I need to file any taxes for the work I did on-campus. If so when and where do I need to do it?
3.As said earlier I will be graduating this December, so do I need to collect any graduation certificates or transcripts from the school?

If possible can you guys list some bullet points what all I have collect from school before I leave.

Thanks a lot , Waiting for your replies.....

        1. Update your adress with the school so that they will send W-2 early 2015
        2. U can file tax starting early 2015 through april 15 2015. U can go to H&R block physically or turbo tax online or something similar to file it
        3. Better have your transcripts as it might be useful later on

1.If school paid your state and federal tax then they will give W2 or if you paid on your own you get 1099 form . you can file tax using any of them !
            2. Yes if you get paid, you can file in turbotax after Jan 31st 2015.
            3. Better to have official transcripts and copy of degree .

              Hi Rakesh,
All you need to do is file tax for the year in which you earned an income. Get the suggestion from a Tax expert and don't go for filing on your own which may makes uneasy later on.
