  • Lost Indian Passport with valid US visa in it

    Hello all,

    I lost indian passport with valid US visa in it, I'm currently applying for for new passport. I have to back to India for Visa stamping again, so I just wanted to know for what and all I need Visa here in US. Do I need really need to back India as soon as possible ? as I dont have SSN, can I apply for SSN with new passport and just I-94 ? or I need Visa for SSN ?

      It depends on your status and how long you have been in U.S. If you are in F-1 status and you are applying for SSN after getting EAD card, they will want to see EAD card, passport, and I-94. If you are H-1B status but your H-1B was a consular approval, maybe the office might want to see the visa or at least a copy of it. Hopefully, you made a copy of the visa before you traveled.

        I'm on F-1 Status and I do have copy of my Visa.

              for ssn take your new passport and I 20 from the uiniversity and a leeter if possible from the univ

                You can apply your passport here in our Indian embassy. You have to go for the particular embassy say newyork you should be in a particular zone. I guess you got my point

                  Nope no need to get back until you are in proper status visa is just a travel doc and passport is your identity ,
                  You can apply for new passport and if you anytime travel to india you need to go for stamping ,
                  After getting new passport you can apply for ssn with it.

                    hai, even i lost my passport and after my first semester i changed my university... so what are my chances of rejection if i go back to india for visa??
