Once you finish your education, you cannot work without the appropriate visa. If you have studied for at least one year on F-1 Student Visa, you are eligible for a work permit for twelve months that’s called Optional Practical Training or OPT. If you graduate with a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math degree, you are eligible for a 17 month extension of the work permit for total of 29 months of OPT. If you still want to remain and work in the U.S., then you must apply for the H-1B which is a type of work visa for those who hold a bachelor’s degree or higher.
