A Few pointers
1. Start planning out your venture before you graduate
2. Pick the right team
3. Get out there and talk to people
4. Having every deal on pen and paper with partners, mentors, advisors..(contracts, I made a major blunder here and lost my company. One of my partners and mentor had kicked the rest of us out once the company took some shape)
5. Plan better. It could get really frustrating and you could get really desperate due to your race against time (OPT eventually ends), but do not let it cloud your decisions.

I started a company when I was on OPT... Students can start a company on OPT.... the only challenge is what next after the OPT period expires? and yes there are a few ways around that challenge too...

Ans is yes .. But be careful while doing it .. You could be in trouble if you make any small mistake ..
