  • NO 'GIVEN' NAME on EAD Card, cannot apply for SSN !!

I got my EAD card last week and it had NO 'GIVEN' NAME under the given name section.
My passport has given name ABC XYZ and no surname,
then after getting the student F1 visa, the first name was FNU and last name was ABC XYZ.
When I got my EAD card the last name was ABC XYZ and under the given name NO 'GIVEN' NAME.

Now when I went to the Social Security office to apply for a new card, the lady said I cannot apply for a new card because there's NO 'GIVEN' NAME written on my EAD card and she said I need to have my last name and first name properly on my EAD card and then I can apply for a new SSN.

Can anyone please tell me how should I change the name on my EAD card?? Also the name in the form I-765 should be written as it is in the visa right?? or we can write the proper first name and last name in I-765 even though there's FNU in the visa?? And how much time will it take again for the processing as my OPT period has already started?? I have a job offer, but I cannot start the job till I get my SSN. Please help. Thank You.

i think that you should try that all your documents (like visa, ssn, i20, opt, etc) should have exactly the same name & last name as is on your Passport. so if any document has a different name than your passport, contact the concerned authority & request them to change the name as per your passport..

        Process:
Split your name as first and last name at Indian embassy by taking a new passport
Change in ur university records and i20

Try approaching another social security office... I have the same problem. I do not have a last name in my passport and my visa has my complete name as surname and given name as FNU. But, I had no problems getting my ssn although I have not graduated yet.

                            Hi All,

Any help and guidance would be highly appreciated.

I am in the same mess with 'NO NAME GIVEN' issue on my wife's H4 EAD. She got her EAD as Surname: FIRST NAME Given Name: NO NAME GIVEN. I went today to apply for her SSN and the officer said, she will take into account the name as per EAD card. And after some time she said, she is unable to verify the name with the Home Land security. She sent a verification request to USCIS and asked us to wait for 6 weeks till we hear back anything from them. She said, if the application is accepted you will receive the SSN card within 6 weeks.

Please let me know, if anybody has faced this issue in recent times and what happens Next?

And also, i am planning to correct her name in the passport. But the only question i have is how the name can be corrected in I-94? will the USCIS/CBP corrects this or do we need to travel to India to correct i -94? Any help on this please?

                            Thanks,
                            Sadhiq.
