travel on opt but F1 visa expiring in 3 months

Hello Folks,

i am working full time, my question is i want to go india for a week to attend my sister wedding. opt extension just started but F1 VISA is expiring on 25 dec 2013 and i am planning to go in september first week. is it safe to travel? please keep me update, it is very important to me. should take chance or not? it will be appreciate.
