OPT card - Can I start working using before I get new OPT card.

Hello All,

I received OPT card 6 weeks back and found that my first name was wrongly printed. I raised a service request immediately and was expecting USCIS to contact me. Nothing happened for the next 1 month and after which when I called them regarding the name issue and corrected new OPT card, they have asked me to send the OPT card back with other documents to the service center from where I got the OPT. Now the problem is, my OPT start date was 10th June 2013. I am supposed to join job from 22nd July 2013. So considering the fact that USICS is going to take 1 month time from here on to issue me new OPT card, can I start working from July 22nd as my OPT has already been approved or should I start working only after new OPT has been approved and sent to me.

I am going to send them the card back however I have the scanned copies of my OPT card.
