OPT Extension denied due to STEM Major !!

Hello,

Whoever is reading this please post your suggestions, I have just 28 days more.

I have been issued I20 naming major as "Information Management Systems" from the beginning of my Masters. Similarly my International counselor issued OPT extension I20 as is. Now I received a notice of "Denial" because my Major is not listed in STEM programs. All my Friends have "Information Systems" in their I20s and have no problem.
1) What can I do now? Whose mistake is this ? (Dont want to blame but just want to know)
2) Can this be corrected ? Like my DSO changes my degree and I open MTR and file again?
3) I am doing a full time job, will this be effected ?

The cip code might be different for your friend's course than yours. Most likely that is the reason. If that is not the case, talk to your dso about options. Also consult a lawyer but first make sure your cip code is correct and eligible for stem opt. Another option is start looking for universities that offer cpt from day 1.
