I am on my OPT and I am planning to travel to India. My return date is 3 weeks before my OPT expires. I have applied to OPT extension. It is still under processing and it wont be approved by the time I leave US. Is Re entry into US risky? What sort of questions will I be subjected to by the immigration officer? Please help me here. I would be very grateful if you could respond ASAP as my travel date is 3 days away.If needed, I can cancel the tickets.

It's risky, because if USCIS requires you to send clarification documents or if there is any communication that you receive, you will not be able to take further steps as you wouldn't be in the United States. Second thing, USCIS do not mail documents or any communication outside the United States.

Thanks to clarify, but many people obviously go to vacation during this time right? also college has told me as long as first year opt is valid you are fine, and opt extension doesnot get affected by this, do you know any specific case similar to this?or has any one been deported when they went to country in such time
