hello..i just applied my opt in the last week of october as i was planning to graduate in december. but unlucky i may get a bad grade in one of my subject. my question is should i cancel my opt after i receive my grade or continue doing master's for another semester on opt. opt start date is in first week of february if i continue my masters on opt i will loose 3 months of opt time. will it be a problem if i study on opt. i mean in the future. even while filing for opt extension and soo on..please advice..

Same situation. My OPT got approved and then Grad adviser asked me to do one more semester (Summer) So, what happens is: college will tell USCIS that you are not yet graduate so your opt case will remain pending until you graduate. It's not gonna get approved unless your college verify that you graduated. In the mean time talk to DSO, he will extend your i20. Mine was summer so 2 months after that I got OPT approved . There are many issues related to OPT start date and end date. OPT card will show start date as the date it gets approved (2 months later in my case) and end date as the date you mentioned in application. So try to contact DSO and get it resolved. Apart from that I had absolutely no Issues in OPT extension.
