question about my OPT status

I applied for OPT on April 2016 and received on July 18th. After that, I got the result that I failed in qualify exam (I'm a MS student. In order to get degree, I have to pass three qualify exam, and I failed in one). This qualify exam only once a year, I have to wait until June 2017. Now I'm employed by a company as statistician.
I didn't know I have to register in University to maintain my student status. On Oct 10th I was told that I will lose my student status. My dept consultant told me to apply for LOA (leave of absence). This Monday, I was noticed that my application for LOA is rejected and my student status had been elapsed. Then, dept consultant suggested me to re-apply my program, and I would be a full time student at Winter 2017.
My question is that: what is the status of my OPT? Can I work right now?

Opt is only used after you graduate ,if you didn't qualify to graduate you cannot work on opt ,talk to your college and lawyers what to do
