I am on my 12 month OPT and thinking about going home and not apply for stem extension. Can I use my stem extension later if I decide to do another masters?

If you are currently using your 12-month OPT from a Masters degree, then No.
OPT-Extension comes after a 12-month OPT and you can only avail your next OPT from a degree increment (i;e by doing a Ph.D).
So, you will be eligible for your next OPT and/or OPT-Extension only after you complete your Ph.D.

PS, I am not an immigration attorney. This is just my understanding and I could be wrong. For an absolute answer you should probably contact your University's DSO or an immigration attorney.

Stem can be used only once in lifetime
Since you are not using now, you can use it whenever you do your next master

You can definitely use your stem extension later when you do another masters that doesn't come under STEM.
USCIS application itself has the question for this. "Are you applying for this extension based on a different degree earned earlier?"
                    Something like this.

No, you cannot use stem opt in the future. The stem opt can only be used in continuation with the initial 12 month opt period

You can use it only once. Since you're not using it now, you can use it next time you do a Master's in STEM field and assuming that the rule doesn't change until next time you complete your Master's. And for those who are saying no. Go check your facts before posting here. Many students ask question here assuming that subscribers give them a right answer. https://www.uscis.gov/.../students-and.../stem-opt...

Unless you plan on completing a PhD there is no way to obtain OPT using another Master's degree. No STEM without an OPT.

You can use it later, if you don't apply for it now. The new rule allows you to apply for STEM extension based on an earlier STEM degree. If you do get it now, then the only way to get STEM OPT later would be to do a PhD.

If you obtained a Bachelor’s degree, even if you obtain a STEM OPT extension, you will be eligible for OPT and STEM OPT if you obtain a Master’s degree in a STEM field. On the other hand, if you obtain a non-STEM Master’s degree, you should be able to obtain the STEM OPT extension since it was not utilized at the undergraduate level.
