  • New Passport- OPT Application

    HI

I have recently lost my passport and have received a new one from Consulate General, NY. I would like to know if my visa in the lost passport still valid ? Can i apply for OPT with just a copy of my visa in the old passport. In such case,

    - My passport number on the visa will be different from that of the new passport. Will that be a problem during the application processes.

    Kindly Advice on this.

    Regards
    Lee

You are in F-1 status and the visa in your old passport only evidences that you made a legal entry into the U.S. using an F-1 visa. Submit the copy of the new passport, the visa stamp from the old passport and a copy of your I-94 record.
Next time you travel, you will need to obtain a new visa stamp.

Yes you are, just provide them with all the old and copies that you have and check with your DSO as such what can be done on this matter further to avoid OPT - RFE's and complications. Additionally it would be good if you can prepare an explanation letter reg.. what had happened and check with DSO whether you can attach it with the OPT application and send it to USCIS.

                    Hello everyone,

I am in urgent need for help guys. I applied for OPT and 2 months later got a RFE- as it turns out, my DSO forgot to include a copy of my passport page in my application package. I am extremely worried as I am not entirely sure whether I should be reissuing a new I-20 (in order to make sure I don't pass the 30 day window of filing), or whether I should just send the passport copy that they asked for. I heard about many people forgetting to sign I-20 or I-765 and having to get reendorsed and refile the entire application. Please advise, this is keeping me up at night.
