  • URGENT! OPT replacement receipt number not received

    Hi all,

    There was an error in expiry date on my OPT (USCIS error) and so i sent it back to texas lockbox with a letter explaining the error and necessary documents along with G-1145 form for e-notification. The Texas lockbox received my application on July 5th, 2016 and it has been more than 3 weeks now, yet i haven't received any email or notice of action or rejection notice from lockbox. When i called USCIS they said my new application still doesn't show up in their system. I have sent couple of mails to [email protected] and haven't heard back anything from them. I am worried about the status of my application as it has my original OPT in it.

    Does lockbox delay your application if there is no Check/Money order in it? Can someone please tell me if they faced similar situation and how long it took to receive a receipt notice from lockbox.

    kindly suggest me of any steps to take. Thank you.

        Hii Nagyen, My EAD card has incorrect expiration date like you rather than giving me two year EAD card they gave me one year EAD card, could you tell me did you got any update from the USCIS for your case?.

          i haven't heard anything from them. when ever i call uscis some say i will get a new receipt number and some say i will have my old receipt number itself. it's been more than a month already. so im guessing my card is lost at lockbox. one thing i learnt is that if the error is from uscis and you dont have to pay anything, it is better you send it back to USCIS service center probably Nebraska service center directly rather than sending it to lockbox. i got screwed by my DSO as she asked me to send it to lockbox.

            Hi Nagyen, I called USCIS they asked me to send the original EAD card with a letter explaining the situation and I-765 to texas center. My EAD was processed by potomac center. did your card also processed by potomac center?. I think you should reapply for new card with $380 this way you will be sure you have the card.

              hi, even i sent my card to texas itself even though my card was processed at Potomac service center. but i didn't pay any money. i didn't think they will screw up like this. are you paying for your new card?

                Hi Nagyen , I haven't sent my EAD yet. I am planning to sent it this week with following documents

                I-765
                Letter explaining the incorrect date issue
                G-1145
                orignal EAD

                did you got any updates from uscis?

                  yes, I got a reply to my email from lockbox support after a month saying they forward my application to Vermont service center. In the meantime my DSO sent couple of mails to vermont service center asking about my status. Vermont service center replied saying they processed my application and they will send me new card after supervisor approval. But what's funny is, I got a letter from potomac service center this friday saying they haven't receive my ead card yet!! this is ridiculous. I don't know why potomac service center sent me mail if vermont is processing my re-submission. I am waiting for my dso's instructions on what to do next. This whole thing doesn't make any sense to me. I will update my status if i hear anything from my DSO.

                  Your list looks good, except that you won't be getting any notifications even if u attach that G-1145 form. Anyway i sent the same items in my application too in addition to proof that error was from USCIS which is my Pre-OPT card and Post-OPT I20 which had correct suggested expiration dates. you too send something as evidence if possible. Finally expect to wait at least 2 months for processing.

                    I had a similar error on EAD card and I sent my card back to nebraska service center on Nov. 12 and I haven't heard back from USCIS sicne then. I sent them the same set of docs that you had mentioned earlier. There has been no update to my case status and I didn't get a new receipt number either. Did you finally get back your corrected EAD card? How long did it take you to get the card back?

                      Hi vicyrad, I received my ead after 2 months. i contacted my school DSO and they had sent couple of mails to USCIS center which helped speed up the process. But to clarify some questions others may have.

                      * I did not receive any receipt notice or email from uscis.
                      * My EAD card has same card number on as the previous one.

                      I would say try to reach out to ur school DSO and ask them to send them email for you. In the meantime try to be patient, you will get it for sure. I know it's hard and makes pull your hair out, but there's nothing you can do really, other than wait. Let me know if you have other questions.

                        Thank you for your prompt reply. This is really reassuring. My card has been with uscis for more than 2.5 moths. It is not clear if they even received my documents (USPS tracking is the only confirmation I have so far). I have asked my DSO to send them emails as you had suggested earlier. I guess, apart from that there is nothing much I can do. Calling USCIS wasn't very helpful either.

                          I too have the same issue. I had error on my initial OPT card expiration date. My card was first processed at Potomac Center. I sent the EAD card back with cover letter and new I765. I got a reject notice in 3 weeks from Phoenix Lockbox asking about application fee. I had not attached any fee check (2nd time). Today I sent back my application back with all the documents and a new check; even though it was a USCIS error. Did not wanted to waste my time. What happened to your case? Did you hear it back from them?

Its been 2.5 months now, I havent received any update nor new receipt number. There is no way I could track status of what's going on after sending my original EAD card back.
