    Hi Everyone,

Is it necessary that the job you one can take on OPT should be related to his/her major?

Can we take up jobs on OPT which are not related to our majors?

Your job must be related to your degree. Otherwise, what’s the point of USCIS offering the OPT program? (Why would they let you work as a bartender if your degree is in mechanical engineering?)

There is a clause that you have to take a minimum of 3 courses(9 credits) related to the field you are working in.Support you do a Master's in Computer Science, but still you do a 9 credit course in sports management. Then you could get into the field of sports management. You could get a Opt and even an extension.Although the rule is evident I'm a bit confused at the 3 courses limit or higher .However I would suggest you to consult an expert, as this forum should not be used to make legal decisions.

As per rules, yes you need to work in the same stream that you have studied because you're getting practical training on what you have learned.. I know many who aren't following it.. So, you can work on non stream job, but be careful in procedures to avoid rfe..

Hi, Thanks for the information. Is there any page or website where I can find more information about the clause you mentioned in your comment.
