Opt stem extension

Hello guys,
I'm working for an X company right now. I need to apply for an 24 months stem extension and I'm working through an employer.
The issue for me is my background doesn't match my current job. So what are my chances of getting the extension, if my employer justify that he has trained me.
Are anyone of you in the same situation or if u already have your extension EAD. Please respond back and help me out .
