OPT STEM Extension

Hi,

My OPT started on Oct 5th 2016. I am applying for Stem extension now.
My employer has asked me to apply for the 17 month stem extension instead of the 24 month extension.
I want to know if I am allowed to apply for the 17 month extension now or if I am only allowed to apply for the 24 month extension.

You can't apply 17 months

After May the 10th you can apply only for 24 months. They replaced 17 months with 24 months extension.

First of all your university DSO will not accept your 17monthe extension application. They will definitely ask you to submit i-983 which is for 24 months.

The 17-month extension no longer exists. You can only apply for the 24-month extension.

may i know the employer who is signing the i-983 because my employer said to me that,he wont sign on i-983 .i dont have a job too.can you please help me out from this situation.
