Travel while waiting for extra 7 months of STEM OPT

Right now, I am on my 17-month STEM OPT (valid until May 2017). June or July this year, I will be applying for a 7-month extension so that my STEM OPT becomes valid until December 2017.

My question: While my STEM OPT application for 7-month extension is pending with USCIS, can I take a trip to India and come back to US without any problem during immigration AND without causing harm to my pending application at USCIS?
