Can OPT STEM EXTENSION be UNPAID???

Hi,
I am on my OPT working as unpaid, I need to apply for my OPT STEM EXTENSION in few days, my question is:
Can OPT stem extension be unpaid? If so can I use the same offer letter which is have for my OPT?

You cannot work as an unpaid employee during your STEM OPT extension. You must be an employee that is paid. Your employer also needs to be enrolled in E-Verify.
