  • New STEM OPT extension form - I983?

    Hello,

I'm on initial OPT planning to apply for extension according to New OPT rules. I'm currently working for "A" company through "B" company. B runs my payroll. According to new rule(Form-I983) employer has to show the training plan, resources etc to the DHS. If I'm working on a project, how can there be a training? I'm not getting trained. I'm just working through "B" to "A" on contract. Does this indirectly mean that I can't work through vendors? The employers are already rejecting OPT students because of all extra training plans etc. Most of the jobs related to my feild requires citizens or GCs except temporary contracts. This new rule may complete reduce my opportunities to a minute level. Can someone give me idea of what's going on?

Okay.. You need to take a broader look. Yes, consultancies are sucking big on students. Consultancies bring talent at cheap price, companies wanted that and government has let it pass. It has been there for years even before 90's! Not born in one year! All games you see now are just political play!

If you're explaining how consultancies work, that's neither the related to the point I made nor the question the guy asked.

Welcome to reality .. every one only saw it increasing to 2 yr form 17 months . Did not see any further details . As of now training plan may not threat most consulting based jobs but it gives authorities grater control over students .

Yes.. that's right. New OPT rules will give more control to immigration authorities. But what about the contract jobs?

Well that'll be more than 40hrs /week. And above that, putting the consultancy thing aside, when you work with vendors, they just employ you on their behalf at client location. They're not willing to put so much effort that DHS needs them to do with new rule. If you see new rules and form-I983, it'll show the expectations of employer and which is not at all sweet news to employers. They've more reasons to ignore international students on stem degrees.
