        Hi Everyone,

My Friends mother passed away few days back, she traveled home on emergency, She is on her Opt-Ext(24months), her current OPT-Extension is received by USCIS, its been 37days, her initial OPT is expired, She is currently in Project, she has her new i-20 which was issued by college. Her current Client might give her a letter from the company(Not sure).

Does she need her OPT-Ext card to come back into the country? If not, How can she Expedite the process? what are the documents to keep in mind while traveling back?

Thank you everyone for taking you valuable time and replying, please help me out on this. any inputs would be of great help.

        Have a good day!!

        Regards,
        Vikram

Sorry for the loss. Opt card along with valid visa are needed for reentry. Even with those, one can be taken to a level 2 scrutiny at cbp, nothing to do worry. Good to have a client letter else if her i20 reflects it - that will do the job. Plan accordingly. Good luck.

Travel i20 that's the one University gives..carry it for sure, client letter, pay slips. opt card not be shown until and unless asked !! I might be wrong .. !!

Opt and New i20 are needed for re-entry. She might not be asked to show the EAD card but her status will be opt extension case pending. EAD cards are usually received within 60 days. Monitor the progress and make arrangements accordingly. She might get lucky even if she returns earlier than that as it totally depends upon the officer at the port!!

This is the most heartbreaking part of being students on OPT and No student should ever go through situation where he has to choose between his career and Family.
