RFE on OPT - Urgent help needed please!

Got an RFE yesterday. The reason is very strange.
Reason: Maintenance of status.
Your SEVIS records show a start date of Aug 2014 to Dec 2015, but your SEVIS is terminated from Aug 2014 to Jan 2016. Please provide the following documents.
1. Statement from your school DSO.
2. Full description of your course.
3. Copies of your syllabus.
4. Proof of tuition payments.
5. Complete address history.

My advisor is on sabbatical for long time, so it must be the possible reason my college failed to update my SEVIS. (I knew that my SEVIS is inactive on November 2015 and it took two months for my IC to fix this. I had sent all my official transcripts to USCIS to activate my SEVIS again). I have never traveled out of country and my college is one of the most reputable in the state of Illinois.

I'm afraid if something goes wrong. Do I need assistance of lawyer in filing these things.

Go talk to the current advisor and get the documents that are required. Just because your advisor went on Sabbatical, I’m sure your school assigned a new advisor and there are other international students enrolled. You may want to get an attorney involved.
