Transition from 12 months OPT to Stem extension

I requested for stem i20 before the rule was published on 11th March. so my stem i-20 is dated 3rd March 2016 which is for 17 months. Should I go ahead and apply for stem extension with that 17 months i-20? My OPT is getting expired on 20th June. I spoke with DSO and they don't have proper information as they are still going through the new rule. If i am applying right now, the application would be processed after 10th May after new rule would come into effect. So I don't know that I Should I go ahead and apply with 17 months i20 ?

The new rule is effective May 10, 2016. You can apply for an additional 7month extension 90days before your 17-month OPT Extension expires.
