• OPT STEM Extension - Pending 94+ days - Nebraska

Hello Everyone,

I applied for my OPT STEM Extension on November 20, 2015 and sent it to Nebraska center. I graduated with mechanical engineering. It's been 90+ days since my application was received and online it still says "Application was received". Yesterday, I opened a SR and today USCIS replied "U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) records show your case is in line to be reviewed by an officer. We ask that you allow additional time for this process to take place since we process these cases in the order received. " Is anyone else facing this issue? How long did it take for you to get your OPT STEM Ext. Is Nebraska slower than other centers?

My OPT expired on January 12, 2016

I am working as a Mechanical Engineer on a contract and the client company is e verified as well. The client company offered me a job in December 2015 and I turned it down. They have now increased their offer by 7% and I would like to take it. Can I switch employers (both e verified) while OPT STEM is pending?

Thank you

No, I did not. I applied on 25th November 2015 and it still says "case was received".
I emailed the school DSO and she said she has recently noticed a sharp increase in applications going past 90 days. I don't know what to do. They have had my application for 98 days now.

You are allowed to continue working for 180 days while the STEM extension is pending, so this should not be a problem. Also, you are allowed to change employers while the OPT application is pending as long as the new employer is enrolled in E-Verify.

Hello Lisa. I had a question that might be a little off topic.
Now I'm in a situation where my driver's license has expired since DMV's issue license for international's only until the validity of the EAD. Is there a way that I can get a temporary driver's license issued with the DMV?

I believe you cannot renew your license without your opt card. The I797 notice of action or I-20 do not work

Same situation with me in fact my online recipient number says we received your case and nothing more. But I changed my employee and current one doesn't participate in e-verify. They refused to put my case as everify. Saying we just do i9 employment verification. And said you can give our contact number to the school they can speak to us. Will there be any problem?

You can yes....
1. You have to submit an amended I 765 form with new employer details.
2. Write a letter to uscis explaining your job change.
3. Ask your dso if you need they need to update your i 20 with new employer details or if they need anything from you.
4. Call uscis and verify with them whether you can change

That's what I did....as far as I understood you can change but there's some paper work to do

You CANNOT work for a non e-verify company on OPT STEM Extension. Period. There is no loop hole and no exceptions. I suggest you stop work for the employer and find a different company immediately. There are thousands of e-verify companies out there.
Working for a non e-verify company while on OPT STEM Extension is a violation of your F-1 student visa.
