  • Reg: Doing IT job (not related to course study) on OPT

Hello Guys, I will be graduating in May and applied for OPT. My major is Mechanical engg. I'm unable to get any jobs in my field and lot of my friends suggested me to move to IT field (even I want to shift to IT). However, my DSO officer told me that, with the soon to be proposed new rule regarding the STEM extension, I may get denied for STEM extension as I will be doing a job in IT field which is not related to my course study. What should I do? Please help.

Keep looking for jobs – you still have 3 months until graduation and can accumulate up to 90 days of unemployment. Part-time jobs and unpaid internships count as being employed.
