Student Status after graduation

Hi..I am graduating on Jan 15, 2016. I will be applying for opt in the first week of January and I will put my start date as March 7, 2016.
Will my student status be maintained between Jan 16 - Mar 7 or I will be out of status?

You can apply 90 days before graduation. Why not just apply now and put Jan 16th as your start date?

Ok. I hope you are graduating in 2015. Your student status will be maintained for maximum of 150 days. 60 days grace period after graduation and 90 days unemployed period if they dont overlap.

Post graduation date and prior to OPT start date a student can have a grace period of maximum 60 days, which is termed as F-1 student hold status. So, you should be fine.
