  • EAD security check

I have applied for EAD under OPT (initial 12 month) for the first time. Usually it takes less or approximately 90 days. I am on my 127th day today and still didn't get any update whether it is accepted or denied.

On 78th day I made a service request after calling the customer care, they assigned a reference number and finally I got a reply on 91th day that says, "We have placed your case on a processing hold because the required security checks remain pending. Until we receive the results of these security checks, we cannot move forward on your case. We require the results of security checks before we make a decision on any pending case."

Later on I made another request after 121th day and got another response on 122th day. It says, "We have received your service request and researched the status of your case. We have had to perform additional review and this has caused a delay in processing time. Your case is currently with an adjudicating officer. You should receive a decision or notice of further action within 60 days."

Tracked my case number using the USCIS case number and it's still showing "Case was received"

For the solution of this problem, I have scheduled an appointment with the local USCIS office using the InfoPass system to get an Interim EAD. But what I learned, USCIS does not issue Interim EAD any more. So I am not that much hopeful about the upcoming visit.

I heard another way, contacting the local congressman and then request him to expedite my security check. Don’t know the details about it.

Can anyone please guide me to overcome the situation?

I am in exact same situation. I am on 82 day of OPT application. I got a response to the service request saying that due to security checks the applciation processing is on hold.

      Did you get your EAD?
How many days did it take in all?
How many days from 1st service request?
      How many days from 2nd?
Were you able to expedite? If yes, how?

I think I have a similar situation here. I applied for my OPT extension on Dec 12 (case received by USCIS) and did not receive any updates/ communication from USCIS after that. Its been almost 96 days now but the online case status shows as "Case was Received".
Can we do any kind of expedite requests or something similar?
Should I be taking any steps to address this delay issue.

I contacted USCIS customer care on 6 March, they conveyed the same (case was received) about my status and informed that what ever you see online is your current status - response by the customer support.
I have appointment for walk-in (using Infopass) on 22 Mar - will it be helpful? Any ideas on right questions we need to be asking them during walk-in.

            Thanks
