Got OPT after start date

I received my EAD card on Oct 9th. But the start date on it is Sept 26. As my employer is agreed, can i show that i started working before October 9th otherwise the days from Sept 26th to Oct 9th will be counted under my 90-days of unemployment.

It is said that one shouldn't start working before receiving the EAD card. So i am in doubt that will i violate any rule by doing so.
