Travel with STEM OPT EXTENSION case in Pending Status

Hi,

I am full time employee and traveling to India on vacation in December. I am confused on whether to apply for STEM extension before I travel or after I return.

OPT Validity : Feb 5 2016
Traveling date : Nov 26 2015 - Jan 5 2015

1) If I apply after I return , what should I answer to immigration officer when they say I just have less than one month of OPT left and why I still haven't applied for STEM Extension?
2) If I apply before I travel, I will have 3 month window to get my EAD card but if still I don't get card , is it okay to travel when stem extension case is pending ? I will still have my OPT valid when I am returning.

If anyone faced similar situation.

Please advise.

2. Yes, it is ok to travel as your OPT is valid by the time you return.
