  • STEM EAD Card valid for more than 17 months

    Hello Everyone,
I started my first 12-month OPT period on August 17, 2014 and it ended on August 16, 2015. I received my STEM EAD card in the mail on August 17, 2015. The card is valid from August 17, 2015 to November 16, 2017, which is a total of 27 months on my STEM extension alone. To me it seems like a type on the card, Do you all agree?
Second my I-20 for STEM OPT states my OPT Extension is recommended from August 17, 2015 to January 16, 2017 (17 months). What do I do now?

Third, If I ask USCIS for a new card, how will it affect my current employment status? Will I be able to work till the new card comes with correct dates arrives?

Thank you for all the information you have provided over the years.

    Regards,
    Avinash

You are lucky. Keep working on it for 27 months. If you get caught blame USCIS for the error. You will be fine

Seems like you have only two options; one either demoralize people or compel them to take wrong decisions.... Get a life...

Contact your DSO for the best advice...

                1. Yes it is a Typo.
                2. I-20 STEM recommendation is correct.
                3. You should be able to work, but it also depends on the employer....

It is a typo. Don't even think about working beyond the time specified on your stem i-20 unless you want to jeopardize your visa status. Later when things go wrong, uscis will hold you responsible for it. call uscis and check how to get this corrected.

You can work on it for 17 months don't risk a day beyond ... I suggest working on it for 17 months you are authorized to work for the period , again I would use it for 17 months and not bother a day beyond the correct I20 end date , if correction would involve returning the card , I wouldn't bother sending it and I would just use the card
