first time opt approved only for 10 months

hi,
i have graduated in may 2015. i applied for opt in may i got it approved on july 10th. but their was a mistake on the end date.instead of 06/30/2016 the date was printed 04/30/2016.that means i only got 10 months of opt . i called to USCIS they said me to send all the documents again.i am afraid that it will take more time to process and my opt period will be wasted. can i continue with the present card or should i send all documents to them. if i continue with the card will it effect my opt 17 months extension.please help me.

U r opt end date can be 12 months from start date or 14 months from grad date which ever is earlier ..
