OPT/Name was Updated - Applied for OPT, but still working on thesis

Hello,

1) I applied for my OPT for the 1st time on 7th May 2015 and on 11th May 2015 USCIS received my application. The USCIS sent me the receipt with an incorrect name. I called USCIS and changed my name with them on 20th May, and they updated the case status as "Name was Updated" on June 3rd. Its been 78-80 days now since my application was received and I haven't received my card or haven't witnessed any change in the status yet. I am just worried if everything is on track.
2) Once I receive my EAD card, will I be able to work? Since my Thesis is still pending. I have completed my entire course credits and only thesis is pending. Will I be able to work?
