Not able to get Drivers License in Illinois because EAD is not exactly 1 yr

Hello Everyone!

Background: While i applied for my EAD, i have put 1 week shorter than 1 yr period. I still have 6 more months to go. But, my driver's license will expire in a month and i recently moved to Illinois.

Current: I went to DMV to get IL driver's license. The Manager in DMV told i can't get license because the EAD is not exactly for 1 yr and wanted to see my I-20. My I-20 is from different state and says she can't accept it either. If i am a student in IL why would i be coming to her in first place. I am frustrated and wonder why simple things are getting complex for us. Kindly suggest some options or way out. I don't want to break the law either.

You need to go back to the DMV and request for the Supervisor to show you exactly why you can’t get a license just because your EAD card was shortened. It’s still a valid EAD card. Also, find out exactly why it should matter that you studied out of state.

Go to different dmv . Try couple more u may find some relief

If ur in Houston, go to Houston-Dacoma office, u vil be fine.. I have gone thru same and discovered by myself

I was told the same as i have 15 days less on my opt. Also, they told me I could drive on driving license from India until it expires.
I got arrested when I drove with it..
Clueless what to do..
spending lot of money in lawyers.
