Driving License Renewal when on OPT

Hello All,
I have just applied for STEM extension as i am on OPT right now and my EAD will expire on 29th of June. So will my Driving License on th same date. It is a high probability that i wont be able to get my new EAD before that. Please let me know how can i renew my DL as DMV will be asking for my EAD, i guess. Is there any alternative?

The rules differ by state, but if the state you live in will not renew your DL without a valid OPT/EAD card, then you are out of luck.

You can try to expedite the STEM OPT application, citing the need to drive to get work (of course, you should be ready to say that you have no other way to get to work like public transportation and/or taking a cab everyday may be financially prohibitive). You may also want to explain why you applied for STEM so late.

Please pick up ur Dl and check the date of expiry on it. It should be valid for the time ur degree was supposed to be valid for as mentioned on the i20. If it is expired already or expiring before u get ur ead , there is nothjng u can do. U can drive on ur indian license

Give it a try. I got my drivers license renewed for a year with STEM receipt and STEM I20. I am in PA. It depends on the locations I think.

Different states have different rules. You should have an I20 recommending STEM extension and hopefully receipt (I-797C) for the same. Visit DMV with these documents. If they do not renew the license with your documents, they can do a secondary check with USCIS to verify your legal presence and this will allow you to temporaily renew your license for two more months after the legal presence is verified. this secondary check usually takes 5-7 days. But this route solely depends on the DMV officer.

Same condition and I am able to get extended license... license expire before i received ead...
