Driver's licence expired while OPT Extension is pending

Hello All,

It's been more than 2 months that I have applied for STEM extension and the status hasn't changed from "Case was received". I work in Texas and my driving licence has expired (It was valid till the last day of my first OPT). Now that I don't have any document to show towards my licence renewal, how do I move forward to renewing? has anyone been in my shoes anytime?

Texas is very specific when it comes to issuing DL's. They will not accept the I20 recommending STEM Ext. You actually need the EAD card to get the DL renewed. The only option you can try is to take your I20 recommending STEM ext and ask them for a secondary verification to confirm ur lawful presence in the US. This way they may grant you a 2 month temporary license after the secondary USCIS check. The check usually takes 4-7 days and you will be sent a letter stating lawful presence determined. With this you can get your license temporarily renewed. But going this route solely depends on the DMV officer...

I was on the verge of same situation but had my STEM approved 2 weeks prior to my license expiration... Hpe this helps...

I was in the same situation, dmv officers sent all the docs to their higher authorities, and they approved for 3 mnths in half an hour...... depends on dmv officers...

I was in the same situation. I got my opt extension 2months after my license expired. I suggest driving within the limits till you get your opt stem card.
