Hey guys, I'm trying to expedite my OPT because I have a job that's starting soon, and I desperately need to keep it. It's a tremendous opportunity for me and I doubt I can find something like this any time soon.
Here are the reasons I used for the application:
My father is recently diagnosed with cancer, and his medical bills are a huge burden. He's also working a lot less due to the illness. Even though technically he still has his job, his income has dropped a lot. My mother recently retired, so the household income has also decreased by a huge proportion. My parents used to provide for me, but the recent events have changed things significantly. They're not able to provide for me anymore. In fact, it's basically on me to make money for the family now (I'm a single child). My bank account is running very low now, since my funds have been cut off for about half a year now. My remaining money may only be able to support me for another month, while the entire family's on my shoulders now. I'm in desperate need to start working in order to survive and support my family. I do have an awesome job offer that needs me to start soon. My employer is not willing to wait for anything more than a few weeks at most. This job pays good, and will be able to help my financial problems. But if I lose it due to slow processing of the OPT application, I'm in serious danger of going literally bankrupt in a months time, and my family would be facing a lot of hardship too.
This got denied last Friday. They didn't even ask me for supporting documents. Even though I explained to the service officer that I'm filing it under "significant personal financial hardship" reasons, the returning rejection letter only stated that having a job offer is not enough to be considered for expedition.
I'm wondering if I should file another expedite request. According to my school officers, applying for expedition and getting denied will slow things down even more. But I'm really surprised and honestly kind of offended that they only told me that a job offer is not enough. Did they really read all the medical/bankruptcy issues that I'm having and decide that "nah, having cancer is okay"? Or did they just throw it in the trash as soon as they saw the words "job offer"?
I think my situation's pretty serious, and I really really want to keep the job, but do you guys think that there's any chance that my second request would be approved? Or am I just wasting time?
Any insight would be much appreciated. Thank you.
