  • OPT and E-Verify!

    I am graduating in may 2015 and have filed for my OPT (EAD). I have a job offer from an employer as a contractor and he wants me to start immediately. I told him that it is illegal to work before I receive my EAD, he says that he will not pay me and consider this an unpaid internship till I receive my EAD. When the contracting company started filing out my I9, E verify did not accept my application saying that I did not submit enough documents supporting my Work Authorization in the USA. Now they have asked me to submit a copy of my visa and SSN and the receipt that received after filing for my EAD. Will E verify accept this? Will this affect my EAD card processing. Please help! I am really stressed out!!

        I believe that unless you have CPT, you are not supposed to be working off-campus, even for an unpaid internship.

                Stop jeopardizing your prospects of working in the US. As Sudhir said you cannot work without an EAD, working will be considered illegal and the repercussions cannot be mended...

                  OK, several things here.

                  1. You CAN NOT work (paid or unpaid) until you are authorized to do so as given by the date written in your EAD card or any other license/card from the government that authorizes you to do so. Even writing 1 line of code for an employer while relaxing in your backyard will result in you being burned at the stake. Your employer will say "nothing will happen" and will even go on to say that "Srikanth Reddy also worked like that and he has a Green card now". Dont believe him..they are cheating you. You will get int o trouble, not your employer.

                  2. Anybody who gives any other answer apart from 1 is sure to betray you in life.

                    yesterday i hot an offer saying from a recruiter company that we train and hire you even if we dont get job they pay us after 2 months and they gave a some company name namexxx saying that they are vendors i have searched in google but just found only website of that company but novranking or nothing and technologies they offer..my question did vendors do not have a consulting company and can we trust them

                        Actually if it's solely a voluntary job it is okay. As long as it doesn't offer benefit or the job converts into a regular paid job
