If I have done 18 month CPT and no OPT in 1st masters am I eligilble for OPT in my second masters

I intend to do MBA in US and have applied to a university. The program has CPT of 18 months and no OPT. Once I complete my MBA degree and have done a 18 month CPT in MBA, I may want to do a second Masters in the field of Computer Science, since I have completed my B.Tech in India. At the time of this Masters in Computer Science which is a STEM degree, which will be my second masters, will I be eligible for 12 month OPT and extension of 17 months as I would have done only 18 month CPT and no OPT in my First Masters MBA

Be wary of schools that have you doing CPT from day one unless it’s a reputable institution. US immigration (USCIS) has begun to look at these schools suspiciously. Many H-1B applicants are facing lots of scrutiny if they did too much CPT while studying.

The reason you are not eligible for OPT is because you’ll be doing CPT for 12 months or more, and that makes you ineligible. It’s difficult to say if you will be eligible for OPT and STEM extension after the 2nd degree program.

If you do more than 12 months of full time CPT then you are not eligible for applying OPT. I think this is why you are not eligible for OPT or else normally they give 12 months OPT for MBA. I am not really sure whether they will consider the 18 month CPT from your MBA in second masters, check with the school. I would suggest you to do MS in computers first and get your 29 month OPT and get your H1. If you did not get H1 you need to maintain your status anyway so you can join the MBA with CPT from day 1.
