Applying for OPT with Low GPA

Hi,
I have a low gpa, 2.7 because I had dropped a course last sem and will be taking it this sem.
Can I apply for opt with low gpa or should I wait till it crosses 3.0
Also, I took some online courses but all of them were within F1 regulations.
Will this affect the opt chances?
Please help me out with this. Thanks.

Hiring is not an issue here. As long as you fallow SEVIS rules regarding your online courses it's not a problem. Better wait till last week of semester so that you will get the clarity

i have 2.9 gpa and my DSO asked me to apply getting 3.0 gpa if you apply it will get rejected opt shouyld be applied only after getting 3 gpa to be safer side

I think your school itself won't let you graduate. As far as I know most of the schools you need 3.0 GPA to graduate

If u are sure of getting 3.0 gpa by the end of semester u can go ahead and apply
If not u can even apply after getting your result but u'r EAD card may get delayed for few weeks, of course getting a EAD late is better than declining

As long as u graduate you will be fine.. The regulation is that you should have attended college for at least one year without any break b4 graduation, and of course pass all the classes. Lower gpa doesnt affect opt approval decisions. Please post back when you find a job so that stereotypes realize that they are stereotypical! Good luck!

Agree with Sabin Sapkota.OPT decisions are not dependent on your GPA. As long as you have skills and are confident of getting into a job, you should be fine, and once you land up a job no one will ask for your GPA.
