When to Apply OPT extension Stem

Hi
My current OPT will end on july 7th 2015,My employer is filing H1B this April 1st 2015.Shall I wait for decision pick on H1b and then apply for OPT extension or shall i apply right away now.Please help

If you have OPT until July 7, wait until you find out about the H-1B first. Why spend unnecessary money?

To be absolutely safe, Apply for STEM Extension. Even if your petition is selected in the lottery, your H1b petition approval might be pending. And if it is delayed beyong your OPT expiry, you may be in a bind.

if you are worried abt money then you can apply after you know abt the h1 results .to be on safe side you can apply 120 days before the expire and note that you will have 60 days grace period i think

As per todays news release, uscis will start processing premium from may 11th onwards. That means u will be pretty close to your opt exipiry date. To be on safe side just go ahead and apply for stem extension

U can apply any time before expiry .. But better to apply irrespective of u r h1 .. It only cost 380 and shipping costs ..

Opt ext u dont have grace period to apply ..

I mean once your initial opt expires and your extenstion decision is pending still you can work

I have same scenario. Mine expires on July 2nd. As per USCIS, you can apply for extension 120 days prior to current expiration. But you dont have to. You can actually apply well after April because you can legally work with expired EAD while ur stem case is pending or if you are approved fir H1b, you wont even have to apply stem extension as you will be considered in a Cap-Gap. I am applying for extension beginning of June if I do not get approved for H1b. Hope this clears.. Refer to uscis website and university sites.. There are lots of info regarding this.

I am in the same situation, based on our company immigration specialist she strongly recommended that I apply for my OPT extension 90 days before my opt expires. Also remember that if you didn't get your H1b and your opt runs out without you applied for extension then you are out of status.

Post opt will have option of cap gap i20 until h1b decision..so no wry even it is delayed I guess. ..

what if OPT is expired and your are in CAP GAP and H1b is denied bcoz of EVC pay checks issues from the employer??Is ther chance of applying OPT stem at that point of time?
