Can i apply for Opt extension without giving my final defense?

Hi, i gave my final project proposal this semester which means I cannot give defense in the same semester. But i am already on my opt and it expires on May 9th. Can I apply for my opt extension with out finishing my defense? If not, is there any other option for me to get out of this? I can finish my defense by the end of may. Also, i am currently employed.

Please help
