  • License renewal-Waiting for OPT ext

    Hi,

I am currently on OPT and applied for OPT ext. It has been 2 months I applied but the status still says "case was received". My concern is my license is about to expire and when i inquired if I can get temporary license till I get my OPT extension card, they said rules have changed and they are not gonna give until opt ext is approved.
Did anyone face this situation? Please give me some value suggestions.

    Thanks

We are on similar boat. It's been more than 2 months since I applied for STEM Extension, the status still says "Case Was Received". But regarding Driver's license, I went to NC DMV and explained my situation, they referred and asked me to show I-797C proof that I applied for extension. Based on that form, they gave me 6 months extension from the notice date on the receipt.

Btw, when did you apply exactly and is this the case for all the STEM Extensions ?

Hi. USCIS received my packet in the first week of December. Even I said, that I have I-797C document for proof, but they replied until we get approval they wouldn't renew license. rules were changed recently it seems.

I am not sure who you talked to but this was the case 2 weeks back. May be something changed very recently. Best thing you can do is, go to a different DMV and try your luck there. USCIS received my packet around first week of November. It's really frustrating having applied long before and still facing delays. Do you know of anyone who applied for STEM Extension got theirs approved since November ?

I'm in a similar scenario. STEM ext. application received in late Nov and waiting. However, I haven't gone to renew the license yet. It expires next week. Should go this week. Hopefully they do extend it.
