  • OPT Extension related question

My OPT end date is 17th Feb 2015. I am working for an e-verified company. I applied for STEM extension, they received my documents on 8 Jan. Everything was going smooth but recently my employer told me that my contract is going to end on 13 Feb. My questions are:
    1. What are my chances of getting STEM extension?
    2. I am working through a staffing agency, my recruiter is ready to help me on this but he don’t know how to he could help me neither me. What are the things he can do to help me?
    3. If my STEM extension is denied, what are the options I have?
    Thank you 

You can still get an STEM extension, but you must quickly find another E-verified employer. Go speak with your student advisor as well.
Additionally, you should be looking for a company to do an H-1B application as well. This way, even if your STEM is denied, you can start working on H-1B on October 1. Since your OPT ends on Feb 17, your grace period would presumably end on April 16. As long as you have an H-1B filed by April 1, you can remain in the U.S. in F-1 status. Here’s a good H-1B Cap resource: http://www.visapro.com/resources/default.asp

What is the status of your case right now ? I would suggest requesting your client to not to terminate you for one more month .. And once you get your stem approval you can send an email to your dso telling her you switched companies .. My personal experience do not try messing with uscis .. That slows down your application process

            1. if ur major falls under stem category and the company is everified u should be ok
            2. tell them to keep on marketing u.. that's one thing they can do
            3. you have 180 days that you can legally work after you apply for stem extension ...
