  • Unpaid internship offer letter for re-entry

    Hi guys,

I'm a recent Masters Graduate and I have received my EAD card. I'm currently travelling abroad. I have an unpaid internship offer letter for 20 hours a week - will that be sufficient (along with i20, visa, EAD card) for re-entry to the US? Will I have some issues because it is an unpaid internship? If yes, how can I avoid it?

Please let me know as soon as you can.

    Thanks!

Yes, that should be sufficient. However, you might want to carry with you a printout from the ICE website that states that unpaid internships are allowed while on OPT (here is a good example- http://www.ice.gov/doclib/sevis/pdf/...nce_042010.pdf, at page 17, 7.2.1).

Thanks, Lisa! That is very helpful - I will print that out and carry it with me!

Most of the time they don't ask for anything except Passport and most recent I-20. Just to be safe, carry all the documents you have and you would be good. You probably won't need them though.

                Hi Abhishek,

I am in a similar situation. Can you throw some light on your experience at the immigration counter?
