OPT Approved But sevis not Updated

Hi,

Can anyone help me out here. I am travelling out of country this week, I got my opt extension approval letter and EAD Card.
College gave I20 for travel with status as opt pending. When asked DSO mentioned that even though my opt extension is approved, it is not updated in sevis by uscis.
And he recommended not to go and it's my choice if I want to go. Can anyone suggest me wont approved letter, ead card and f1visa are not the important documents? Do we need an I20 which has approved status? I am positive that sevis might be updated by the time I come back. But what about my status on my I20?

Please help me here.
